Fundatia Soros SRL
The Soros Educational Center Foundation is a non-profit organisation located in Miercurea Ciuc, Romania.
Between 1996-1998 the Center worked as a satellite branch of the Soros Foundation for an Open Society (Cluj) and its main activities were teaching English and German languages, IT and general management.
In december 1998 the center became a separate foundation and expanded its portfolio with other educational offers depending on the local and regional needs of the community.
Besides our regular services (language and IT teaching) more than 50% of the Center`s activities are involved with implementing EU and other projects in the field of adult education.
Our Foundation is full member of QUEST (The Romanian Association for Quality Language Services), which is an associate member of EAQUALS (The European Association for Quality Language Services).
Since January 2004 the Center is an accredited testing centre for ECDL (European Computer Driving License) and in 2007 became a member of the ENTER Network (the European Network for Transfer and Exploitation of EU Project Results).
We support community and economic development efforts of NGOs and other local community groups by
- facilitating information access in English library
- helping community groups and NGOs to design and complete projects that enhance the life of the community
- facilitating free access to e-mail service for disabled people
- partnership building with local government and NGOs in order to stimulate creative and innovative solutions
We try to contribute to the cultural life of the town and the region by
- Facilitating an exchange of ideas and social life of local youth
- Re-activating old folk traditions
- Informing about cultural diversity of Europe
The Center conducts different research work and supports publishing books through projects. In addition, the English Language Library is open to everyone and the helpful staff are available to give advice, to help individuals interested in further education possibilities or to support and assist small NGOs in writing an application.
